Abstract in Ink on Paper
'Abstract Landscape' series has been created by the artist during second lockdown. As a response to Pandemic and time of isolation Joanna Pilarczyk paints a series of imaginary landscapes representing her actual feelings and emotions such as anxiety, fear, love, nostalgia. She translate them into atmospheric scenes by choosing the right colour palette and composition, from very expressive and energetic to these which are quiet and reflect the calmness and relaxation. Pilarczyk finds her inspiration in landscapes and wild nature, places so different as Iceland, Sahara or beautiful landscape of England where she lives. The artist founds some positive aspects of Pandemic, she enjoys rare moments of rest when the whole world stoped running and people have moment to immersions themselves in the beauty of nature when the sky is so blue and air more clear than few months ago. While creating art Pilarczyk meditates putting herself into moment of relaxation. Those imaginary, pure landscapes are also a response to a serious problem of climate change. Joanna focus on the consequences of our collective exploitation on natural resources. She believes that these self- destructive behaviours will eventually lead to the huge catastrophe when there will be no fresh air, clean water or healthy earth. This inspired her to create the new ‘Abstract Landscape’ series to reflect on the current situation. Through the absorbance and fluency of ink on paper that captures the beauty of natural scenery she hopes to give a voice to a desperate and helpless situation of the Earth.
The artist experiment with the subject and various techniques like ink, liquid acrylics, powder pigments, watercolour and gold, copper leaf. The paintings are created in water based media on Fine Art cotton paper.
