My Brazil
Oil, acrylic, spray paint on canvas, 120 x 100 x 3 cm
'My Brazil' painting explores the relationship and love between two men from different backgrounds and cultures. The artist takes inspiration from people living in her neighbourhood. A young gay couple, Brazil-born Renato and a British man, Alex, are both creatives residing in London. They share with Pilarczyk an intimate moment and a conversation about their relationship and the past. Renato, who grew up in Brazil, shared with the artist his memories of a beautiful but dangerous country where he didn't feel safe s a young gay man. He still misses his family house with a yard full of trees and colourful toucans.
Joanna Pilarczyk captures a duo portrait of her friends showing their love and trusts for each other through the vibrancy of her colours and open, relaxed composition.
